There can be few activities more pleasant than a stroll along the Paseo Marítimo beach promenade of Marbella – whatever the time of day, week or season. There is something for everyone here in this famous part of Marbella that owes its popularity to two happy coincidences – the beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, which are in turn laid at the foothills of the Sierra Blanca Mountains, with the stunning backdrop of La Concha Mountain framing the view.

Starting from the western end of the paseo, leaving the picturesque marina of Puerto Banús behind, we find ourselves wandering past some of the most expensive real estate in Spain, the exclusive villas of the Golden Mile. For those who want to move a little quicker than a stroll, you can hire bikes and Segways by the hour from the Gran Melía Don Pepe Hotel. For those continuing on their walk, we begin to get closer to the centre of Marbella, passing the convenient Plaza del Mar shopping centre with its gym, the Plaza del Mar Centro Wellness, Supercor supermarket and several bars and restaurants.

Soon we reach the most frequented stretch of the Marbella promenade and below on the beach a favourite place for lovers of chiringuitos – a row of the beach restaurants famous in this part of the world for producing wonderful paellas and fresh fish, particularly sardinas al espeto – or sardines on a skewer barbecued in a fishing boat. It is a typical dish of the area and must be tasted.

All along this part of the promenade there are bars and restaurants with a wide variety of cuisines catering to most tastes, both simple and more upmarket.

It is also fun to take a detour to the Marbella Puerto Deportivo – the Marbella marina – and watch the huge fish circling the boats. This area really comes to life at night however, with the many lively bars filling up until the early hours and beyond.

Previously the walkway finished just past the Puerto Deportivo however it has recently been joined to the Marina La Bajadilla, Marbella’s fishing port. Here you will find yet more authentic fisherman’s restaurants in this working port.

There is something for everyone along this promenade, which more than most other factors has made Marbella famous throughout the world. Should you wish to buy a property close to the sea or indeed in areas in and around Marbella, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
