The winning charm of Estepona

A traditional fishing village that stood in the shadow of nearby Marbella, Estepona has retained a very Andalusian charm that includes both a popular yacht marina and a more traditional, working fishing harbour. The latter is one of the contributing reasons why Estepona is known for its excellent fish and seafood restaurants, some in the centre and some right on the beach!

The winning charm of Estepona

The historic town centre of Estepona is more attractive than ever, following a beautification programme that has seen the historic quarter painted and tidied up, with each street boasting pretty flower pots in its own colour. The town also has a long, sandy beach within walking distance from the quaint pedestrian streets, squares and central area with its shops, restaurants and cafés. This brings the main parts of the town to within a comfortable circumference that also includes classic Spanish ‘chiringuito’ beach bars and trendy ‘hippie-chic’ beach clubs.

Estepona is an up-and-coming residential area

Extending outwards from here are the residential areas popular with foreign visitors and homebuyers, including luxury beachside apartment complexes on the west side near the marina. The area is also home to mid-range villas and townhouses, but with luxurious new frontline beach apartment complexes like The Edge and a series of luxury modern villa projects it is definitely moving upmarket.

Another up-and-coming area is the New Golden Mile, which extends eastwards between Estepona town and Cancelada. Here you will find exclusive beachfront apartments and it is fast becoming a new upmarket zone, but one that offers space for expansion and also excellent value for money. Thiss particularly true of the areas immediately inland from the coastal A-7 road, where new luxury urbanisations of gated modern villas and luxurious apartments are making this an increasingly upmarket option at just ten minutes from San Pedro Alcántara and fifteen minutes from Puerto Banús and Marbella town.

Los Flamingos is prime among these, but so are Cancelada and El Paraíso, which enjoy wonderful country and sea views whilst being conveniently close to both Estepona and Marbella, with a good offering of restaurants, shops, cafés, schools, clinics, golf courses and other amenities on their doorstep.
