Why is Guadalmina so popular?
| 26th Jan
This thriving little community on the border between the Marbella and Estepona municipal boundaries is known to a select few but offers a more discreet exclusivity than its better-known prestigious contemporaries on the Golden Mile, such as Sierra Blanca.
Guadalmina actually consists of two areas, Guadalmina Baja and Guadalmina Alta.
This is the area where well-heeled cognoscenti have luxurious villas resplendent in large grounds. It is a tasteful zone of leafy streets leading to beaches never far removed from the front doors of these privileged properties. There are not just villas, but also apartments and townhouses to be found, all within the same refined atmosphere. Guadalmina Baja surrounds the lower course of the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, a prestigious establishment that has been a part of the fabric of this community for almost sixty years.
Guadalmina is bisected by the main A-7 coastal road leaving Guadalmina Alta on the mountain side of the road. The main commercial hub of Guadalmina is here, the Guadalmina Commercial Centre, which forms the heart of this community. A business hub with estate agents, lawyers and marketing agencies can be found here, amongst a wide range of other services including shops and boutiques. However, for those who want to socialise or just grab a coffee and a bite to eat with friends, there is a great variety of bars and restaurants too. Many of the establishments have been here many years and are great meeting places for returning visitors with holiday homes in the area as well as locals.
The upper part of the Guadalmina Golf Club runs through this area with some wonderful apartments, townhouses and villas arranged around it, offering great golf views for enthusiasts. The clubhouse is also based in this area and several prestigious tournaments have taken place here, most recently the Spanish Ladies Open, which was happily won by a local player, Azahara Muñoz.
Guadalmina is a beautiful residential area of Marbella with easy access to the great new boulevard and San Pedro town, as well as exciting Puerto Banús just minutes distant, with all the amenities of Marbella a short distance further.
